THE PENNSYLVANIA PAIN SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING AND SCIENTIFIC SESSIONS

DECEMBER 8-10, 2017

PURPOSE

The purpose of this program is to educate physicians and healthcare practitioners in evolving acute and chronic pain management and provide a forum for participants to gain valuable understanding in evidenced based techniques, treatments and solutions for patients suffering from pain.  In addition, Pennsylvania legal issues and coding/ billing will be presented in a didactic, interactive format.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the end of this program, participants should be able to:

1.         Employ key diagnostic and treatment techniques for the management of pain.

2.         Identify and administer appropriate safe opioid usage in patients.

3.         Understand and include behavioral analysis in the evaluation of a chronic pain patient.

4.         Identify and resolve issues relating to the law and billing for pain management.

5.         Apply evidenced based strategies to clinical practice for managing complex

            pain patients.

 

Medical Marijuana Certification Course Objectives - Physicians seeking to register with the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Medical Marijuana Program and Physicians, Pharmacists, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants who wish to work in dispensaries must complete this course. All medical professionals interested in learning more about medical marijuana are also encouraged to take this course. 

  1. Explain the status of cannabis as a controlled substance under U.S. federal law and the provisions of Pennsylvania's Medical Marijuana Act of 2016 relevant to the responsibilities of the practitioner or medical professional.
  2. Describe key features of the endocannabinoid system and cannabis pharmacology, and non-phytocannabinoid constitutes of cannabis.
  3. Discuss best practices in patient evaluation, medical marijuana product choice, dosage and therapeutic monitoring based on the patient’s serious medical condition; including recognition of potential drug interactions, side effects, potential addiction.
  4. Evaluate possible concurrent opioid use, risk management needs, and palliative care considerations for pain management.

 

ACCREDITATION

Satisfactory Completion

Participants must complete an evaluation form to receive a certificate of completion.  Your chosen sessions must be attended in their entirety.  Partial credit of individual sessions is not available.   NOTE: if you are seeking continuing education credit for a speciatly not listed below, it is yoru responsibility to contact your licensing/certification board to determine course eligibility for your licensing/certification requirement.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Amedco and the Pennsylvania Pain Society (PPS). Amedco is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 

Credit Designation Statement

Amedco designates this live activity for a maximum of 17.25 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

 

Nurses

Amedco is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This course is co-provided by Amedco and PPS.  Maximum of 17.25 contact hours
